AUBURN, Ala. – Sophomores Taylor St. Jacques and Terri-June Granger of the No. 1 Auburn equestrian team were named SEC Riders of the Month for March, the Southeastern Conference announced Thursday.
St. Jacques picked up both Equitation Over Fences and Equitation on the Flat honors from the league office.
In Fences, the Glen Allen, Va., product closed out the regular season with a 3-0 record in March, including two big wins on the road. She averaged an 84.3 in the event over three meets, kicking off the month with an 86 in her win at No. 2 Texas A&M (3/1).
St. Jacques helped the go 4-1 in Fences at No. 3 SMU (3/2), besting her opponent by six points. She capped things off with a five-point victory in Auburn's big win vs. Georgia (3/8) at home, guiding the Tigers to another 4-1 victory in the event.
The sophomore also put together two big rides in Flat in March, securing MOP honors in both meets. Her two MOPs upped her season total to six on the year in the event over nine meets competed.
At Texas A&M, St. Jacques scored in the 90s for the third time this year, earning a 92-82 win on the road and helping the Tigers sweep the Aggies in the event. She capped the regular season with another big ride at home, earning 81 points in her win vs. Georgia. That point total was the most by any rider in the event that day and it helped the Tigers go 4-1 vs. the Bulldogs in Flat.
Granger was honored for her performances in Reining, going 2-1 in March with one MOP. The Dothan, Ala., product kicked things off with her first MOP of the season coming at TAMU. Granger scored a 70 to best her Aggie opponent by 3.5 points.
In addition, Granger scored a 72.5 on the road at SMU for her second-highest score of the year. She then capped the regular season with a 70.5 in her win vs. Georgia at home.
The No. 1-seed Tigers open postseason action at the 2019 SEC Championship, facing No. 4 seed South Carolina, March 29. The two-day meet will be held at the Hildebrand Equine Complex on the campus of Texas A&M.
