TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Auburn women's tennis team forced four singles matches to third sets but came up short in a 4-2 loss at Alabama Friday afternoon.
The Tigers fell behind after dropping the doubles point, despite a 6-0 win at the No. 2 spot from Jaeda Daniel and Yu Chen.
Alabama moved ahead 3-0 with wins at the No. 5 and 6 spots, but Madeline Meredith got the Tigers on the board with a 2-6, 6-3, 6-4 win at No. 2 singles. Russo also fought back from dropping the first set to win 2-6, 6-0, 6-2 at the No. 3 spot. Daniel had also forced a third set on the top singles line, but Alabama clinched the match with a win on court four.
Auburn is back at home for two matches next weekend as the Tigers host Tennessee and Georgia on Friday and Sunday, respectively. Admission is free to all home Auburn tennis matches at the Yarbrough Tennis Center.
