AUBURN, Ala. – The No. 13 Auburn gymnastics team earned a berth into the NCAA postseason and will be the No. 4 seed at the Baton Rouge Regional held April 4-6 in the Pete Maravich Assembly Center.
"I do like that we're going to a place that's close to home and pretty familiar," head coach Jeff Graba said. "To go to LSU – they have great equipment, it's an SEC crowd – it's probably a good recipe for this team."
The Regional will begin on April 4 with the first round featuring George Washington and Lindenwood. The winner will advance to the second round on April 5. The afternoon session of round two will begin at 2 p.m. CT and will feature No. 2 seed Utah, No. 3 seed Minnesota, BYU and Arkansas.
The evening session will begin at 7 p.m. CT and will include the top-seed LSU, Auburn, Arizona State and the winner of the first round.
The top two teams from each second round session will advance to the Regional Final at 7 p.m. CT on Saturday, April 6. The top two teams from the Regional Final will then advance to NCAA Championships April 19-20 in Fort Worth, Texas.
"Nobody is ready for this format," Graba said. "Nobody really knows what it's going to be like. It's back-to-back competitions and possible three competitions in a row for some teams. It's now a quad meet, not a six-team meet. There's a lot of different things on the line, but I think the coolest part about it is now we've actually got a Sweet 16 round. Our goal is to get into the Sweet 16 and then have a great meet at that round trying to get into the Elite Eight."
Tickets for the regional are available at www.LSUtix.net. All-session tickets are $16 for adults and $8 for youth (ages 3-12). Individual session tickets are also available now and $6 for adults and $3 for youth. Tickets for groups of 25 or more are available for individual sessions and are $3 each.
