AUBURN, Ala. – Auburn senior Taylor Krippner was selected by the Southeastern Conference to represent Auburn on the 2019 SEC Community Service Team, the league announced Tuesday. It's an honor that highlights athletes from each school in the SEC who give back to their communities in superior service efforts.
Krippner has been very active in the Auburn community throughout her four years on the Plains, and especially during her senior season with the team as she has used her major (nutrition) to educate those around her. This past summer, she spent a month working with the Our House Nutrition Camp in Auburn where she educated children through cooking, nutrition games, lessons and physical activity. She also created physical activity nutrition games, planning all activities for the kids.
Also this year, Krippner took part in interprofessional education clinics, consulting with patients and collaborating with a team of nursing, pharmacy and social work students to help improve health outcomes of older adults in the community. She spent all of the fall semester at the Diabetes and Nutrition Center of East Alabama Medical Center, spending time with patients, while also assisting members of the staff.
The Cypress, Texas native also helped mentor and educate members of the Boys and Girls Club about the importance of good nutrition through games.
Krippner and her teammates have volunteered with Habitat for Humanity in Birmingham almost every summer. The Tigers have also assisted the Jason Dufner Foundation, filling backpacks with meals for needy kids in Lee County. And she and the team have put on gymnastics clinics for area elementary schools, speaking about the importance of school and physical activity.
Krippner is a two-time member of the SEC Academic Honor Roll as well as a member of the 2016 SEC All-Freshman Team and First-Year SEC Academic Honor Roll.
Former Auburn gymnasts Cara Stricklin (2018) and Kullen Hlawek (2017) have each represented the program on the SEC Community Service Team the past two seasons.
The Tigers will begin their postseason run next week when they compete in the Baton Rouge Regional held April 4-6 in the Pete Maravich Assembly Center. The regional is hosted by LSU.
