PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. – Sophomore Brandon Mancheno is tied for 12th overall at even-par (69-75--144) to lead the No. 9 Auburn men's golf team after two rounds on the opening day of The Hayt Sunday afternoon at Sawgrass Country Club.
Mancheno racked up nine birdies in his first 36 holes, including six in a brilliant 3-under 69 first round. He is one of just 14 players in the entire 88-player field to be at even-par or lower.
Graysen Huff and Wells Padgett are tied for 37th on the leaderboard at 5-over. Huff (77-72--149) carded three birdies and an eagle on his final hole of the day - the 520-yard, par-5 18th hole. Despite starting out the day with two double-bogeys, Padgett (75-74--149) turned in seven birdies on the final 34 holes.
Jacob Solomon (77-74--151) and Trace Crowe (78-74--152) rounded out the lineup at 7-over and 8-over, respectively. Solomon is tied for 53rd, while Crowe is in a tie for 57th.
Competing as individuals, Andrew Kozan and Marcus Svensson are tied for 43rd and 69th, respectively. Kozan (73-77--150) carded seven birdies, while Svensson (82-73--155) turned in five.
As a team, the Tigers are tied for 10th with TCU at 6-over. No. 22 Louisville and North Carolina lead the field at even-par (576), followed by No. 17 North Florida (579), Coastal Carolina (579), NC State (580), No. 19 Clemson (580), Tennessee (581), No. 21 Alabama (589), Jacksonville (589), No. 9 Auburn (592), TCU (592), UAB (597), North Texas (603), Purdue (607) and Charlotte (607).
