AUBURN, Ala. – Coming off her first collegiate victory, Auburn sophomore Julie McCarthy was named the SEC Women's Co-Golfer of the Week on Wednesday.

McCarthy and the other recipient of the award, Tennessee junior Micheala Williams, finished in a tie at the top of the leaderboard in this week's Clemson Invitational. Both golfers were at 8 under par through the first two rounds before weather cancelled the third and final round.

"It's great," McCarthy said. "I wasn't really expecting it until Coach (Melissa) Luellen told me. We've all been playing pretty good as a team, and I think it's finally starting to come together heading into next week and the SEC championship."

McCarthy opened the tournament with a career-low round of 66 (-6) on Sunday that included seven birdies and just one bogey. The sophomore followed that with a 70 (-2) in Monday's second round and finished with a total of 11 birdies over two days.

For McCarthy, who is now ranked No. 4 in the country per Golfstat, it was her sixth top-five finish of the season. She has shot par or better in five straight rounds and in 11 of her last 16 rounds dating back to October, and with the victory, she's the fourth different Auburn golfer to win an individual title this season.

Teammate Brooke Sansom also earned SEC Golfer of the Week honors in February following her win at the Shootout at Shoal Creek. Prior to that, the last Auburn golfer to win the award was Cydney Clanton in November 2009.

The Tigers, who finished second as a team in the Clemson Invitational, will travel to Birmingham next week to compete in the SEC championship.
