AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Auburn men's golf program was well represented on the biggest stage in golf as former Tiger Patton Kizzire is tied for 11th and current student-athlete Jovan Rebula is tied for 44th after the first round at The Masters.
Rebula, playing in his first Masters, carded nine pars to go along with four birdies. The junior had five bogeys and posted a 1-over 73 in his opening circuit of the par-72 course.
Playing in a group with PGA Tour stalwarts Vijay Singh and Billy Horschel, the George, South Africa native held his own and hit 71 percent of the fairways - five percent above the field average. Rebula also had just 1.61 putts per hole.
Kizzire is just three shots off the lead after turning in a 2-under 70 in the first round of his second Masters tournament. The 2007 Southeastern Conference individual champion was on the only golfer to hit all 14 fairways in the opening 18 holes.
Kizzire averaged just 1.39 putts per hole - the lowest mark of anybody in the field. The highlight of his round came on just his second hole as he chipped in for eagle on his third shot on the 575-yard, par-5.
Rebula tees off with Singh and Horschel at 8:36 a.m. CT, while Kizzire begins his second round at 7:30 a.m. CT with Michael Kim and Sandy Lyle. Live coverage is available at Masters.com.
