Auburn begins busy week at Georgia Tech

AUBURN, Ala. – No. 23 Auburn (24-12, 8-7 SEC) begins a stretch of four games against ranked opponent in five days at No. 16 Georgia Tech (24-12, 11-7 ACC) Tuesday night. First pitch at Russ Chandler Stadium is scheduled for 5 p.m. CT.

QUICK HITTERS

Auburn is 6-3 in midweek games this season. The Tigers won the first six midweek contests by a combined score of 56-19 before dropping the last three by a margin of 12-26.

The Tigers are 8-6 on the road this season, matching the team's road win total from a season ago (8-15). The team hasn't won more than 10 road contests in a season since 2010 (11).

Auburn has posted a 1.92 ERA with a 3.18 K-BB ratio in games won this season. Conversely, the Tigers have turned in a 7.70 ERA and a 1.40 K-BB ratio in games lost.

Matt Scheffler is riding a season-high, seven-game hitting streak and is hitting .360 (9-for-25) during the span. Scheffler has reached base in 13 straight games.

Cody Greenhill ranks tied for 13th in the country with eight saves, five of which have come on the road. He hasn't allowed a run in his last five appearances and 8.2 innings pitched.

SCOUTING THE YELLOW JACKETS

Georgia Tech enters the week with a 24-12 overall record and 11-7 mark in ACC play.  The Yellow Jackets won two of three at Boston College last weekend and have won seven of the last 10 games.

Offensively, the Yellow Jackets are hitting .288 and are led by sophomore Michael Guldberg's .395 clip, which leads the ACC. Junior catcher Kyle McCann leads the team in home runs (14), RBI (42), hits (43), walks (36) and total bases (94).

On the mound, Georgia Tech has turned in a 4.23 ERA. The Yellow Jackets lead the ACC in walks allowed per nine innings (3.28).

SERIES HISTORY

Auburn holds the advantage with a 119-110-6 all-time record in the series vs. Georgia Tech, but trails 53-62-2 on the road.

Auburn's rivalry with Georgia Tech dates back to 1897 and is the third-oldest active series in program history.

The Tigers fell, 3-9, at Plainsman Park earlier this month, and the two teams have split the home-and-home series in each of the last four seasons.
