AUBURN, Ala. – Auburn junior Taylor Russo has been named to the SEC Community Service Team for women's tennis, the league office announced last week.
Russo, who came to Auburn from Deerfield Beach, Fla., helped with the relief efforts from the March 3 tornadoes in Lee County by volunteering at the Dream Center of the Church of the Highlands, where she helped organize and accept donations and supplies. She is involved with Auburn's SAAC, where she made cards for veterans on Valentine's Day, worked with the campus food pantry to help collect over 2,200 food items, and worked with her team to sponsor two children as part of the Salvation Army's Angel Tree.
She has also volunteered with the Lee County Humane Society and helped organize free tennis clinics for kids following the Tigers' home matches.
All league-sponsored sports have had a Community Service Team since 2004, with at-large teams for men's and women's sports being chosen from 1999-2003.
Russo and the Tigers will face Mississippi State in the first round of the SEC Tournament at 1 p.m. CT Wednesday in College Station, Texas.
