PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. – The No. 9 Auburn men's golf team finished its play at The Hayt in 10th at 40-over in rainy, blustery conditions at the par-72 Sawgrass Country Club Monday afternoon.
"It was a tough week at Sawgrass CC," Auburn head coach Nick Clinard said. "We didn't have our best stuff from a ball-striking perspective, but we learned a lot about our team. We will improve during this coming week and look forward to playing at Shoal Creek in our next event."
Wells Padgett led the way for the Tigers and tied for 25th overall at 9-over (75-74-76--225). His highlight of the day came on the par-3 12th hole when he aced it from 167 yards out. The Wichita, Kan. native added a pair of birdies to complete his final round.
Trace Crowe finished in 33rd at 11-over (78-74-75--227), while Jacob Solomon tied for 40th at 13-over (77-74-78--229). The duo combined for three birdies in their final circuit of Sawgrass CC.
Brandon Mancheno was just one shot behind Solomon at 14-over (69-75-86--230).
Graysen Huff (77-72-83--232) and Marcus Svensson (82-73-77--232) tied for 58th at 16-over. Andrew Kozan rounded out the Auburn contingent in a tie for 65th at 18-over (73-77-84--234).
Tennessee won the event at 11-over (875), followed by No. 22 Louisville (888), North Carolina (888), No. 17 North Florida (889), NC State (889), No. 19 Clemson (892), TCU (898), Coastal Carolina (899), No. 21 Alabama (902), No. 9 Auburn (904), Jacksonville (907), North Texas (907), UAB (915), Purdue (922) and Charlotte (927).
The Tigers return to action when they play in the Shoal Creek Invitational, April 15-16, in Shoal Creek, Ala.
