AUBURN, Ala. – The SEC Championship is over. The field for the NCAA Auburn Regional has been revealed. And on Wednesday, Auburn sophomore Julie McCarthy was rewarded for her strong play as one of 15 golfers to make the cut for the latest ANNIKA Award Watch List.

The award, named after golfing legend Annika Sorenstam, honors the Most Outstanding Female Collegiate Golfer of the year as voted on by peers, coaches and golf media.

McCarthy, currently ranked No. 6 nationally per Golfstat, finished the regular season with her first individual win at the Clemson Invitational earlier this month. The Ireland native shot a career-low 66 (-6) in the first round and followed that with a 70 (-2) in round two to finish the tournament at 8 under. She earned SEC Women's Golfer of the Week honors following her performance.

Going back to the fall, McCarthy has six top-five finishes on the season and has shot par or better in 14 of her 25 rounds, including five rounds under 70.

The final ANNIKA Award Watch List will be cut to 10 golfers and will be announced next month after the NCAA Regionals have been completed. The winner of the 2019 ANNIKA Award will be announced June 4 during Golf Central on the Golf Channel.

McCarthy and her Auburn teammates will look to defend their home turf at the NCAA Auburn Regional, held at Saugahatchee Country Club from May 6-8.
