Kylee Carter wins at Penn Relays in record fashion

PHILADELPHIA — Junior javelin thrower Kylee Carter won the women's college javelin championship Thursday at the 125th Penn Relays Thursday with a meet record throw of 56.31m/184-8. Carter notched the record toss on her fifth of six attempts, breaking the previous meet best of 56.16 set in 1996 by Villanova's Jen Pastore.

Carter, who won her sixth consecutive event in 2019, was not the only Tiger with a strong showing in the javelin. Teammate Peyton Montgomery was third with a personal-best mark of 51.99m/170-6, while sophomore Ashley Carter was seventh (46.97m/154-1).

Freshman Madi Malone, the Auburn record holder in the hammer throw, broke her own record for the second time in four weeks with a throw of 64.66m/212-1 to earn the silver medal in the college women's hammer championship. Senior Erin Perkins was seventh with a best mark of 59.79m/196-1.

Auburn's other competitor on Day 1 of the relays was sophomore Tori McKinley. The Hermitage, Pa., native was sixth after a throw of 15.97m/52-4.5.

The Tigers will have a full day of action on Friday starting with the women's discus throw at 11:30 a.m. ET, featuring McKinley and Ivana Muzaric.

The Auburn men will get to work on Friday with the starting with the 4x100m relay and 4x200m relay at 12:30 p.m. and 1:35 p.m., respectively. Sophomore Noah Igbinoghene will jump in the college men's long jump championship at 2 p.m. while freshman Anthony Schwartz runs in the 100m at 3:25 p.m. At 3:30 p.m. Marrel Parker and Mark Rubalcaba will compete in the men's long jump.

The 2019 Penn Relays will be televised on Thursday online at USATF.TV. NBC Sports Network will air action on Friday from 4-5 p.m. CT and Saturday from 11:30 a.m. until 2 p.m.
