AUBURN, Ala. – Freshman Madi Malone broke a six-year old school record in the women's hammer throw to highlight the Auburn efforts of Day 1 of the Tiger Track Classic at Hutsell-Rosen Track on the Auburn campus.
Malone's third throw of 64.49m/211-7 crushed the previous school record of 207-2 set by Daina Levy in 2013. Malone had a huge day as four of her six throws all surpassed Levy's old school mark. After an initial toss of 202-10, Malone came an inch short of Levy's record before shattering it on the third throw. Her fourth thru sixth throws resulted in the No. 2 (209-0), No. 3 (207-8) and No. 4 (207-6) throws in school history.
Overall, it was a solid first day for the Auburn field events. Joining Malone on the medal stand in the women's hammer was senior Erin Perkins who finished third (56.60m/185-8).
Kylee Carter broke the Hutsell-Rosen Track record en route to winning the women's javelin throw with a mark of 54.62m/179-2. Carter surpassed the previous facility record of 169-6 held by Florida's Evelien Dekkus in 2008.
Other top three performances came from Kennedy Brown in the women's triple jump and senior John Putnam in the men's javelin throw. Brown jumped 11.94m/39-2.25 to earn bronze in the triple jump, while Putnam posted a third-place showing after a throw of 63.40m/208-0.
