WICHITA, Kan. – Junior catcher Matt Scheffler has been named to the Buster Posey National Collegiate Catcher of the Year Award watch list, the Greater Wichita Area Sports Commission announced this week.

Scheffler ranks second on the team with a .294 average and is hitting .286 in league games. He is not only riding a season-high, 10-game hitting streak, but has also hit in 14 straight Southeastern Conference games and has reached base in 19 consecutive league contests.

Scheffler has played in 44 games and started behind the plate in 42 contests this season. He has turned in a .986 fielding percentage and has thrown out nine would-be base stealers.

The watch list will be narrowed down to the semifinalists, who will be announced on May 17. Ballots will be sent to the national voting panel at the end of May to determine three finalists, who will be announced on June 3. A final vote will occur during the College World Series, and the winner will be announced on June 27.
