NORMAN, Okla. – Auburn men's golfer Jovan Rebula has been selected as a semifinalist for the Jack Nicklaus National Player of the Year Award, the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) announced.
The junior is one of 30 semifinalists up for the annual award and is one of seven representing the Southeastern Conference.
Rebula leads Auburn in scoring average at 70.79 strokes per round heading into the NCAA Championship. His scoring mark currently stands as the fourth lowest in single-season program history.
The George, South Africa native has carded 15 below-par rounds, including 13 in the 60s, and finished inside the top 10 five times this season.
Rebula was the fifth Tiger to win the SEC individual championship and the first since 2007.
In addition to his success with Auburn this season, Rebula won the British Amateur and earned exemptions into the British Open, The Masters and the U.S. Open.
The Nicklaus Award winner will be announced May 30 with the honor presented by Jack Nicklaus at a ceremony during the final round of the Memorial Tournament presented by Nationwide at Muirfield Village Golf Club.
In addition to receiving the Jack Nicklaus National Player of the Year Award, the winner will compete in the Barbasol Shootout for an exemption into the PGA TOUR's Barbasol Championship, held July 18-21, at the Champions at Keene Trace in Lexington, Ky.
The Barbasol Shootout will be held Saturday, June 1 at The Ohio State University Golf Club's Scarlet Course in Columbus, Ohio - the same club where Jack Nicklaus played collegiate golf for the Buckeyes.
Rebula and the Tigers continue their quest for a national title when they travel to Fayetteville, Ark. for the NCAA Championship, May 24-29, at The Blessings Golf Club.
