AUBURN, Ala. – Auburn sophomore Julie McCarthy was named an Honorable Mention All-American by the Women's Golf Coaches Association on Thursday.
McCarthy, a native of Ireland, is fresh off a strong performance at the NCAA Championship where she helped lead the Tigers to a top-four finish. The sophomore finished tied for 36th overall during the stroke play portion of the event and then won her match in Auburn's match play victory over Texas in the quarterfinals.
Coming into the NCAA Championship, McCarthy was ranked No. 10 nationally per Golfstat and was tops on the team with an average score of 72.53 per round this season. She had six top-five finishes, including her first collegiate victory at the Clemson Invitational in April.
McCarthy was named First-Team All-SEC earlier this month, and she was also one of 10 golfers selected to the International Team for the the 2019 Arnold Palmer Cup, which will take place June 7-9 at The Alotian Club in Roland, Arkansas.
McCarthy is the 18th Auburn women's golf player in program history to earn All-American honors from the WGCA and the first since Sophia Schubert in 2015.
