Austin, Texas—Redshirt freshman Madi Malone capped an outstanding rookie season with second-team All-America honors while breaking her own school record in the hammer throw Thursday during Day 2 of the 2019 NCAA Outdoor Championships at Mike A. Myers Stadium on the University of Texas campus.

In a very strong field of competitors, Malone broke her previous school record set a month ago at the SEC Championships with a throw of 65.49m/214-10. It marked the fourth time in nine meets in 2019 that the Wichita, Kan., native set the school best. Malone's second and thirds were solid, with tosses of 64.65 and 65.31, but not enough to advance her to finals as she finished 11th. Her three attempts were three of the top five marks in Auburn history, demonstrating the strength of the field as well as the outstanding performance by Malone. She was the top finishing freshman in the field, equaling her top freshman national performance at the 2019 NCAA Indoor Championships in March.

Sophomore Joyce Kimeli, competing in her first NCAA Championships, just missed advancing to Saturday's finals in the 3000m steeplechase by four seconds, crossing in 10:04.71 to finish 13th. The Eldoret, Kenya, native ran with the lead pack for the first five laps before dropping back over the final three trips around the track. Kimeli earned second-team All-America honors for her efforts and will come back Saturday to compete in the 5000m.

Junior Kylee Carter, slated to compete in the javelin throw Thursday, will have to wait until Friday as the event was postponed after several weather delays pushed back several events. The Beauregard, Ala., native will throw Friday at 2:30 p.m. CT.

Friday's action will air on ESPN3 beginning at 12:30 p.m. CT with live results available at: https://auburntige.rs/19NCAAOutTF.
