AUBURN, Ala. – This year's European Ladies' Team Championship in Italy featured both Elena Hualde Zúñiga (Spain) and Julie McCarthy (Ireland) from Auburn.
Hualde Zúñiga helped Spain reach the final where they lost to the eventual champion, Sweden. The rising senior won both of her matches in the semifinals to lead Spain past Italy. Meanwhile, McCarthy's Ireland squad fell short against Italy in the quarterfinals.
The Auburn duo of Mychael O'Berry and Brooke Sansom both made it to the match play portion of the North & South Women's Amateur Championship, finishing in the top 32 after two rounds of stroke play. Though O'Berry nearly rallied back like she did in the NCAA Championship against Texas, she and Sansom ultimately bowed out in the Round of 32.
Incoming freshman Megan Schofill will join Sansom and Chandler Rosholt at the U.S. Women's Amateur next month after qualifying for the event with a 71 (-1) at a qualifier event in Port St. Lucie, Florida. Schofill, who made three birdies on the day, finished second in the field of 50.
Schofill also played in the Junior PGA Championship in Hartford, Connecticut where she finished tied for 18th after four rounds. The Florida native shot a 64 (-6) in Round 2.
