AUBURN, Ala. – Swimming at the FINA World Championships in Gwangju, South Korea over the weekend, rising senior Julie Meynen finished 12th in the 50m freestyle (24.78) and 17th in the 100m freestyle (54.41). It was the highest finish ever for a Luxembourgish female swimmer at a major international competition.
Meynen, a 2016 Olympian for Luxembourg, has seen her times improve every year at the last three world championships. She is currently ranked 19th in the world in the 50m freestyle and 39th in the world in the 100m freestyle.
The 2019 Phillips 66 National Championships begin Wednesday in Palo Alto, California, and Auburn will be well-represented with 12 current student-athletes among the competitors.

Christian Ginieczki: 100m backstroke
Aryan Makhija: 800m and 1500m freestyle
Spencer Rowe: 100m and 200m breaststroke
Christian Sztolcman: 200m freestyle
Matthew Yish: 50m freestyle
Women
Claire Fisch: 50m and 100m freestyle
Jewels Harris: 100m and 200m butterfly
Emily Hetzer: 400m, 800m and 1500m freestyle
Bailey Nero: 100m and 200m butterfly; 200m individual medley
Valerie Tarazi: 100m and 200m breaststroke
Aly Tetzloff: 50m and 100m freestyle; 100m backstroke; 100m butterfly
Abi Wilder: 200m backstroke
The Tigers also have six incoming freshmen at this year's national championships with Jack Armstrong, Tyler Babinec, Devan Sweeney, Averee Preble, Hanna Newby and Abbey Webb all competing.
The entire meet will either be live streamed, or live streamed AND televised, or live streamed AND televised AND re-aired on taped delay. Prelims are free to watch on USASwimming.org, as are B finals. To watch A finals, you would need access to NBCSports.com and/or Olympicchannel.com.
