AUBURN, Ala. – Tyler Stice, one of the nation's top-rated men's tennis prospects in the Class of 2019, has signed a letter of intent and has enrolled at Auburn for the fall semester, Auburn head coach Bobby Reynolds announced today.
This summer, Stice, from Atlanta, Ga., was ranked as high as the No. 5 American prospect in the Class of 2019 by TennisRecruiting.net and the schedule he faced has an RPI of No. 2 nationally among that class. A product of the Ginepri Performance Tennis Academy, Stice, who holds a UTR of 13, most recently won the Wildcard Challenge at the BB&T Atlanta Open.
"Tyler's strength is that he plays every point with the same discipline," Coach Reynolds said. "He succeeds by making his opponent play a point over and over and over until they miss. We will work to help him play even bigger tennis and dictate more of how the match unfolds.
"Tyler is a great young man who is a good fit for our team culture. His work ethic is exceptional and he has excellent conditioning and training. His coach in Juniors, Jason Parker, also coached me years ago. We're very glad to have him join the Auburn Family.
"Having a Top 10 American player come to Auburn shows the way our program is headed."
Stice joins Spencer Gray of Boca Raton, Fla., and Thomas Wright of Beckenham, Great Britain, as newcomers to this year's squad. The Tigers begin fall tournament action September 13-15 at the Vanderbilt Fall Tournament, and will host ITA Southern Regionals October 17-22 at the Yarbrough Tennis Center in Auburn.
