AUBURN, Ala. – The Auburn volleyball team lit up Auburn Arena Saturday afternoon as it took down Georgia Tech in an exhibition match, 3-1 (25-22, 25-23, 23-25, 25-16).
"One of the things that we wanted to do today was get everyone some good time and get some evaluations of where we are," head coach Rick Nold said. "I really liked our blocking on defense. I thought we attacked aggressively, and one of the things we made a definite change in was our out-of-system swings and finding better opportunities."
Sophomore Val Green led all student-athletes with 15 kills, while junior Chesney McClellan racked up 10 kills and senior Shaina White had eight. Setters Morgan Kull and Marissa Hines finished with 28 and 13 assists, respectively.
Senior Enija Bidzane had a double-double with 14 kills and 14 digs with five service aces, including four straight in the fourth set.
On defense, Auburn combined for a total of 10 blocks on the day as S. White led the way with six. McClellan and junior Jaeden Brown had their hands on three each.
The backrow put together a solid performance and was led by freshman Molly Pember. The Marietta, Ga. product started at libero and totaled 21 digs on the day. Junior Payton White chipped in 13 digs, while sophomore Bella Rosenthall added eight.
Auburn will begin the 2019 season at home, hosting the annual War Eagle Invitational. Action kicks off on Friday, Aug. 30 and the Tigers will welcome Tennessee State, New Mexico State and Butler to the Plains. Admission will be free to all Auburn volleyball matches this season.
