Auburn wraps up homestand vs. Southern Miss, Samford

AUBURN, Ala. – The Auburn soccer team concludes its four-match homestand with a pair of contests at the Auburn Soccer Complex this weekend. The Tigers take on Southern Miss Friday at 6:30 p.m. CT before wrapping up the weekend against Samford Sunday at 6 p.m.

Sunday's match will be broadcast on SEC Network+ and is available on the WatchESPN app. Brit Bowen and Mac Matthews will have the call from the broadcast booth. Both contests will also be available on radio at WEGL 91.1.

Admission to all Auburn soccer home matches is free.

Starting XI

Auburn won back-to-back contests against Syracuse (2-0) and Troy (3-0) to kick off the team's 2019 home schedule last week.

The Tigers haven't allowed a goal in a game they've won this season. The team has outscored its opponents 9-0 and have outshot the opponent 62-22 in wins, including 32-9 in shots on goal.

Auburn has turned in three shutouts this season, all of which have come in the last four contests. The Tigers have turned in 12 shutouts in 25 contests since the start of last season.

Senior midfielder Bri Folds was named the SEC Offensive Player of the Week and Top Drawer Soccer Team of the Week honorable mention. She matched a program record by scoring in four straight contests, becoming the ninth player overall and first player since 2016 to accomplish the feat. 

Auburn is 165-60-17 all-time at the Auburn Soccer Complex and 35-8-2 at home since the start of the 2015 season. The Tigers have earned a result in 12 straight regular season, home contests against a non-conference opponent.

Friday marks the second all-time meeting between Auburn and Southern Miss. The Tigers previously defeated the Golden Eagles, 6-0, in 2013.

Sunday marks the 15th all-time meeting between Auburn and Samford with the Tigers holding an 11-2-1 advantage. The Tigers have won three straight against the Bulldogs.

Scouting Southern Miss

Southern Miss enters the weekend with a 3-3-0 record and is coming off back-to-back wins against South Alabama and Mississippi Valley State last week.

After scoring five goals in the first five contests of the season, the Golden Eagles exploded for eight goals in a shutout win vs. Mississippi Valley State last Sunday.

Junior midfielder Jenny Caracheo is coming off a hat trick and is one of three players with three or more goals this season.

Scouting Samford

Samford enters the weekend with a 2-2-2 record and split a pair of match vs. Middle Tennessee State and Florida State last week.

Sunday's match will marks Samford's second on the road this season with the other resulting in a 6-0 loss at Florida State last Sunday.

Junior midfielder Alyssa Frazier leads the team in scoring with six points on two goals and two assists. Freshman forward Taylor Yount is the other Bulldog to register a pair of goals this season.

Player to Watch: Sydney Richards

Freshman midfielder Sydney Richards scored the first two goals of her Auburn career in a 3-0 win vs. Troy last Sunday. Richards got the scoring started with a volley in the fifth minute and doubled the advantage with a deep strike in the 27th minute. She became the first Auburn freshman to record a brace since 2011.
