Auburn, Ala. - The Auburn men's tennis team opens the 2019 fall season this weekend in Nashville, Tenn., for the Commodore Scramble.
In addition to Auburn, other teams competing in the scramble are Belmont, Ole Miss, Lipscomb, Tennessee Tech, and Vanderbilt. The scramble will feature both doubles and singles over the weekend. Doubles play begins Friday at 9 a.m. and singles action gets underway Friday at 10 a.m. with the finals scheduled for Sunday morning.
Auburn will be sending junior Matteo DeVincentis, freshman Spencer Gray, junior Diego Chavarria, and senior Michael Durham to participate in Nashville.
Auburn head coach Bobby Reynolds is entering his third season as head coach on the Plains and talked about what he's looking for in his team this fall season.
"We did things a bit differently this year," said Auburn head coach Bobby Reynolds. "We had some intrasquad matches at the beginning of our practice season to get guys right into competition. I am hoping those early matches have mentally prepared these group of guys before playing other competition."
"Ultimately, we use these fall tourneys to get the guys as many matches as possible, both singles and doubles, and then take what we see in those matches back to the practice court. The end goal this fall is to be the most prepared team going into ITA Southern Regionals in October, which we host here at Auburn."
