FRANKLIN, Tenn. – The No. 13 Auburn women's golf team earned its first top-five finish of the season after another solid round Sunday at the Mason Rudolph Championship.
Led by freshman Megan Schofill, the Tigers shot a 290 (+2) in Sunday's third round from the Vanderbilt Legends Club – North Course (Par 72, 6,406 yards) and moved up a spot to fourth on the final team leaderboard. It's the third straight year Auburn has finished in the top five at the event.
Schofill fired a 71 (-1) for the second straight day and made four birdies. The freshman made a total of 10 birdies on the weekend and finished tied for 10th overall in what was just her second career tournament for the Tigers.
Juniors Kaleigh Telfer and Mychael O'Berry also earned top-20 finishes for Auburn. Telfer wrapped up the weekend with a 72 (E) on Sunday to place in a tie for 14th at 2 over. She has now shot par or better in five of her six rounds this season. And O'Berry finished one shot back (+3) after turning in a round of 73 (+1) that included an eagle on the fourth hole, a Par 5.
Sophomore Brooke Sansom placed in the top 30 overall (T-28) after shooting a 76 (+4) in the third round, and senior Elena Hualde Zúñiga saved her best round for last with a 2-over 74 on Sunday. Zúñiga finished in a tie for 38th.
Houston rallied to win the event at 2 over par (866), followed by Vanderbilt (868), Clemson (868), Auburn, (871), Charlotte (875), Mississippi State (876), North Carolina (878), UCF (879), Louisville (887), Chattanooga (893), Missouri (895), Northwestern (895), Mercer (897), Middle Tennessee (914) and Florida Atlantic (915).
Auburn, now halfway through its fall schedule, will return to the course on Oct. 13 for the Magnolia Invitational at Old Waverly Golf Club in West Point, Mississippi.
