AUBURN, Ala. – Auburn senior Marlon Davidson earned SEC Defensive Lineman of the Week honors, the Southeastern Conference announced Monday.
Against Tulane, Davidson tied for Auburn's team lead in tackles with six, including two tackles for loss. He added three quarterback pressures, helping the Tigers keep the Green Wave out of the end zone while limiting Tulane to 2-for-15 on third down.
"I feel like we executed on third down," Davidson said. "We got off the field. I feel like we left a lot of plays on the field with first and second down where they got their yards. It was a very good Tulane group. Their quarterback is very good, mobile."
"Just an outstanding game by Marlon," Auburn coach Gus Malzahn said.
A four-year starter and team captain, Davidson helped limit Tulane to 103 passing yards and only 10 completions on 34 attempts in the No. 8 Tigers' 24-6 win.
"That's the 'go get it' moment," Davidson said of Auburn's approach on third down. "You go hunt. You have to go get him. And I feel like we really did that. I feel like we affected the quarterback a lot. We didn't get any sacks, but we got a lot of pressures and knockdowns."
It's the second consecutive week for an Auburn defender to earn conference accolades. Safety Jeremiah Dinson was the SEC's Defensive Player of the Week for his performance in Auburn's season-opening 27-21 win vs. Oregon.
Davidson and the Tigers host Kent State Saturday at 6 p.m. CT for Homecoming.
