AUBURN, Ala. – Hadley Berg, a former All-American and All-SEC player at South Carolina, has been named assistant coach for the Auburn women's tennis team, head coach Caroline Lilley announced today.
"Hadley is an outstanding addition to Auburn women's tennis," Lilley said. "Her credentials, both as a player and this past year as a coach, coupled with her relationship-focused mindset, are integral pieces to the development of our program. The passion, energy and enthusiasm she brings to work are contagious. I couldn't ask for someone better to work with on a daily basis as she has both unwavering character and integrity. I am thrilled to welcome Hadley to the Auburn Family and humbled to have her joining us."
Berg comes to The Plains after spending the last season as a volunteer assistant coach at her alma mater. The Gamecocks captured the first SEC title in program history in 2019, reached the NCAA quarterfinals and were ranked as high as No. 3 in the country.
"First I would like to thank Evin Beck and the entire administration for the opportunity to join Caroline Lilley and the Auburn tennis staff," Berg said. "I'm eager to be a part of a program and university with such strong values, working alongside people who are committed to developing student-athletes on and off the court. This is a motivated group that's excited to work, and I can't wait to be a part of it. War Eagle!"
Berg played at Carolina from 2014-18. She finished her career with 87 doubles wins, 99 singles wins and 186 combined victories, ranking in the program's top four in all three categories. She went 25-7 overall in singles as a senior, going 4-0 at the No. 1 position and defeating 10 ranked opponents to earn selection to the All-SEC first team. Her junior year saw her win 47 total matches (29 singles, 18 doubles) and start the dual season with an 18-match win streak.
As a sophomore, she and doubles partner Paige Cline were the first Gamecocks to earn All-America honors since 1994, advancing to the NCAA doubles quarterfinals and finishing with a national ranking of No. 20.
Berg is a native of Greenbrae, Calif., and graduated from South Carolina in 2018 with a double major in management and marketing.
