BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Auburn forward Isaac Okoro has been named the Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Week, the league office announced Monday. He is the first Tiger to garner recognition from the conference this season.
Okoro averaged 16.0 points and 5.5 rebounds per game in Auburn wins at South Alabama and vs. CSUN. He also contributed 3.0 assists and 2.0 blocks per tilt during the week.
The Powder Springs, Ga. native hit the game-winning shot with 2.7 seconds left to send Auburn to a 70-69 win at South Alabama, the first true road game of his career. In that game, he became the only Auburn player in at least the last 15 seasons to have a stat line of 15 points, six rebounds, six assists, two blocks and two steals.
In the 116-70 victory against CSUN, Okoro added a career-high 17 points on 8-of-12 from the floor to go along with five rebounds.
Okoro has scored in double figures in all four games to begin his career. He is just the third Auburn freshman to accomplish the feat since 1998, including teammate Danjel Purifoy.
Okoro and the Tigers host Colgate Monday evening with tipoff slated for 7 p.m. CT inside Auburn Arena.
