LAKEWOOD RANCH, Fla. – Auburn finished off its second day at the Dick Vitale Clay Court Classic with a doubles victory Saturday morning at the Lakewood Ranch Tennis Center.
"There are good things to take from today and areas we obviously need to improve," Auburn head coach Caroline Lilley said. "Our willingness to stick with a game plan that is effective and recognizing what we are doing to disrupt is not as clear as I would like it to be. On the flip side, when things aren't going our way, we have to choose to make changes, to dig and fight our way back into matches. Grit coupled with some composure and guts will do us some good finishing up tomorrow."
Senior Georgie Axon and junior Madeline Meredith, Auburn's only two competitors in the event, teamed up to earn a doubles victory in the consolation draw, defeating Michigan's Lorenzini/Van Linge 6-1.
In singles, Axon fell in her quarterfinal match to Cassie McLay of Appalachian State in three sets, 3-6, 6-2, 0-1 (4). Meredith dropped a consolation singles match to Florida's Tsveta Dimitrova, 7-5, 6-3.
Play concludes Sunday at the Lakewood Ranch Tennis Center.
