AUBURN, Ala. – Auburn junior forward Unique Thompson has been named the SEC Player of the Week for women's basketball, the conference office announced Tuesday.
Thompson picked up her third and fourth double-doubles of the season last week, putting up a 24-point, 19-rebound effort at UAB and following that up with 17 points and 12 rebounds in a win over St. Joseph's. She also led the Tigers with five assists against SJU.
So far this season, Thompson has been one of the nation's top rebounders, ranking third in the NCAA and first in the SEC with 13.5 rebounds per game. She is the national leader in offensive rebounds per game (7.5) and ranks second in the SEC in scoring (44th NCAA) with 19.8 points per game. With four double-doubles in four games this season, Thompson has 24 for her career, which is tied for sixth in Auburn history.
This is the third weekly honor for Thompson in her career and her first as SEC Player of the Week; she was a two-time SEC Freshman of the Week selection in 2017-18.
The Tigers begin a stretch of five straight games away from home this weekend when Auburn travels to Estero, Fla., for the Gulf Coast Showcase, playing three games in three days. The tournament begins Friday morning with a 10 a.m. CT contest against Middle Tennessee.
