NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. – The Auburn women's tennis contingent at the ITA Fall National Championships wrapped up the first day of competition Wednesday afternoon.
Freshman Selin Ovunc dropped her opening-round match in singles to Ohio State's 75th-ranked Shiori Fukuda, 6-3, 6-2.
Later in the day, Ovunc and senior Taylor Russo fell in the first round of doubles to the nation's fourth-ranked tandem of Elysia Bolton and Jada Hart of UCLA, 6-2, 6-3.
Both Auburn entries will move into the consolation bracket. Ovunc will face Tennessee's Kaitlin Staines in the singles consolation; doubles draws had not been announced as of 10:30 p.m. CT.
