AUBURN, Ala. – Sophomore Emma Kurtz of the No. 1 Auburn equestrian team was named the SEC Fences Rider of the Month for October, the league office announced Thursday.
The Hudson, Ohio, product went 4-0-0 in the event in October to improve to 6-0-0 overall on the year. Over the four meets, Kurtz averaged an 86.3 after scoring in the 80s the entire month.
She opened the month with an 88 in her 18-point win vs. SUNY New Paltz (Oct. 18). That score tied the highest of the day as well as the highest score by a Tiger in the event this year. Kurtz closed out that same day with MOP honors in her 10-point win vs. Sweet Briar, besting her opponent 87-77.
The sophomore followed with another win at home that weekend, winning her match vs. No. 5 TCU (Oct. 19) with an 84.
Kurtz capped the month with another MOP ride, scoring 86 points in her win on the road at then-No. 7 South Carolina (Oct. 25).
With her help, Auburn finished the month of October with a 15-3 mark in Fences vs. four opponents.
The No. 1 Tigers return to the road this weekend, traveling to Texas for a pair of meets. The squad opens with a contest vs. No. 7 SMU in Dallas, Nov. 8. Auburn closes out the weekend with a big SEC contest, facing No. 2 Texas A&M in College Station, Nov. 9.
