AUBURN, Ala. – The Auburn baseball program and head coach Butch Thompson continued to roll out the 2020 signing class with the addition of Werner Blakely Wednesday.
Blakely is a middle infielder and joins the Tigers from Detroit, Michigan. He is a product of Detroit Edison Academy and the East Coast Sox Select.
"I'm excited to get to The Plains," Blakely said. "I'll be ready to work hard and help my team try to win a national championship."

A lengthy shortstop and left-handed bat, Blakely is ranked by Perfect Game and Prep Baseball Report as the top-rated player in Michigan. He is also rated as the No. 184 overall player in the country and was named a 2019 Preseason High Honorable Mention All-American by Perfect Game.
Entering his senior season at Detroit Edison Academy, Blakely has recorded 163 hits, 26 doubles, 19 triples, 12 home runs and 103 RBI.
This summer, Blakely was one of 80 high school players selected to participate in the Prospect Development Pipeline League in Bradenton, Florida. He went on to become the first player from Detroit selected to participate in the Under Armour All-American Game, which was held at the Chicago Cubs' Wrigley Field. Blakely started at shortstop for the National Team and went 0-for-1 with a lineout to center and drew a walk.
