BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Former Auburn pitcher Q.V. Lowe will be inducted into the Alabama Sports Hall of Fame as a member of the Class of 2020, the board of directors announced Wednesday.
Lowe is one of eight members of the class that also includes former Auburn running back Ronnie Brown, Sylvester Croom and Jorge Posada, among others.
A two-time All-SEC performer and 1967 ABCA All-American, Lowe turned in a 23-3 career record and 1.69 ERA in two seasons on The Plains. He still holds the program's career record for winning percentage (.885) and ERA.
The Red Level, Alabama native went 15-1 with a 1.67 ERA and turned in 10 complete games during the 1967 season, leading Auburn to its first College World Series. The right-hander still holds the Tigers' College World Series records for appearances (three), wins (two) and innings pitched (14.2).
After being selected by the Chicago Cubs in the 19th round of the 1967 MLB Draft, Lowe became a coach and manager for the Cubs, New York Yankees and Montreal Expos organizations. He went on to establish the baseball program at Auburn University-Montgomery in 1986 and won 1,127 games at AUM, leading the team to the NAIA World Series on three occasions.
Lowe is also a member of the Auburn Walk of Fame (1998), Alabama Coaches Hall of Fame (2005) and was named the 2007 Alabama Baseball Coaches Association College Coach of the Year. He retired from coaching in 2014.
