Columbia, S.C.—The Auburn women's distance group, led by wins from Presley Weems in the mile and Frances Patrick in the 3000m, pace the Tigers at the Carolina Challenge at the South Carolina Indoor Track Facility Friday. Tori McKinley also brought home gold for Auburn, winning the women's weight throw.
Weems, a native of Hoover, Ala., won her second race of the indoor season as she blazed to victory in the mile with a personal-best time of 4:50.42. The time also eclipsed the facility record that had been previously set two weeks ago.
A junior from Mountain Brook, Patrick won her first collegiate race, crossing in 10:02.17 to establish a new PR at 3000m. Fellow Tigers Abbey Zane (10:03.22) and Mercy Kiprop (10:15.81) finished third and fourth, respectively, in the 3k.
McKinley won the women's weight throw with huge PR of 17.27m/56-8, besting her previous top mark by three feet. It was the sophomore's fourth victory at Auburn, including her second career indoor victory.
Junior Natosha Jordan had a strong showing on Friday with a third-place finish in the women's long jump (5.65m/18-6.5) while also qualifying for the finals of the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.87.
On the men's side, freshman Khalil Hassan won silver in the men's triple jump with a collegiate-best mark of 14.45m/47-5.
