AUBURN, Ala. – The Auburn men's tennis team hosts a pair of non-conference matches Sunday afternoon at the Yarbrough Tennis Center.
The Tigers (2-0) will entertain the VCU Rams (1-1) Sunday at noon CT and then will face Alabama A&M (0-0) at 5 p.m. in the season opener for the Bulldogs.
"Sunday, VCU coming from up north would like to play indoors, but we'd like to play outdoors if the weather holds," Auburn coach Bobby Reynolds said. "We'll play indoors at Clemson (Friday), and then we'll see how it looks on Sunday. I don't know a lot about VCU, but they look to be a tough team and they played LSU very competitively last weekend. Clemson and VCU are teams on the bubble for NCAAs this year, which is where we are also, so we definitely have to be ready and take advantage of the opportunities."
Friday, the Tigers will be in action at Clemson (2-0) in a 5 p.m. CT match at the Duckworth Family Tennis Facility in Clemson, S.C.
"We'll have Tim Dollman (ITA Southern Region singles and doubles finalist) back in the lineup this weekend, which will move some guys around. We have a lot of new faces, new energy – a priority early on is finding the right doubles pairs and trying to put that together," Reynolds said. "Right now, we have some pairs that were successful last year that we will keep together, and we have some new guys that have good chemistry. We like where we are with the three pairings we have.
"With our new guys, the excitement, energy, competitiveness that they bring in all aspects daily has changed our team and all our guys are benefitting. These are two matches we need to win, we can win, and I'm excited to see where we are."
Auburn opened the spring season January 10 with a pair of wins over North Alabama.
All Auburn home tennis action is at the Yarbrough Tennis Center (771 Yarbrough Farms Blvd., Auburn) and admission is free.
