Auburn hosts Oakland to begin midweek action

AUBURN, Ala. – No. 8 Auburn (4-0) opens midweek play with a contest against Oakland (2-0) Wednesday at 5 p.m. CT at Plainsman Park.

Wednesday's action can be heard locally on WTGZ-FM (93.9), online at AuburnTigers.com, or on a mobile device via the Auburn Athletics app. The game will be broadcast on SEC Network+.

QUICK HITTERS

Auburn is coming off a four-game series sweep against Illinois-Chicago in which the team scored 44 runs on 50 hits and outscored the Flames by 37.

The Tigers 44 runs and 50 hits were the most in a series since 2018.

Rankin Woley led the league with eight hits and four doubles last weekend.

Judd Ward hit for the cycle in game one of Saturday's doubleheader, becoming the first Auburn player to accomplish the feat since Clete Thomas in 2005.

Thirty-one players saw action opening weekend, including 14 newcomers.

Freshman right-hander Trace Bright is set to make his Auburn debut Wednesday. Bright was rated by Perfect Game as the No. 1 RHP and No. 5 player in Alabama last year.

Auburn starting pitchers went 4-0 with a 1.89 ERA over the weekend. The quartet also struck out 29 batters and issued nine walks in 19.0 innings.

The pitching staff has allowed runs in just one of the last 21 innings.

SCOUTING THE GOLDEN GRIZZLIES

Oakland enters the first midweek of the season with a 2-0 overall record after defeating Akron in a pair of contests last weekend. 

Offensively, the Golden Grizzlies are hitting .221 as a team and are led by Cam Post's .667 clip. Mario Camilletti was named the Nike Horizon League Batter of the Week after collecting a triple, double and pair of singles on the Golden Grizzlies opening weekend. Four different Oakland hitters drove in a run during the two games.

On the mound, Oakland turned in a 1.35 staff ERA and struck out 25 batters. Dan Rutan will make his first career start for the Golden Grizzlies, having pitched 39 innings of relief in his first two seasons.

SERIES HISTORY

Wednesday marks the second all-time meeting between Auburn and Oakland. The Tigers defeated the Golden Grizzlies, 8-4, back in 2000.

Fans attending the Auburn baseball game are advised to park in the Beard-Eaves-Memorial Coliseum lot, the Stadium Parking Deck off Heisman Drive, or the Athletics Complex Parking Deck.

The Stadium Deck is also available for game viewing.

There are two mobile device charging stations – one located next to the promotions booth on the main concourse and another in the Plainsman Patio presented by Kia of Auburn.

New for 2020, alcohol may be purchased in the Tiger Terrace. Any fan with a purchased game ticket may enter without a pass or additional ticket and purchase either beer or wine with proof of ID. Alcohol sales end after the top of the seventh. No alcohol may leave the Tiger Terrace, and outside food or drink is no longer permissible.

Grass areas around the park and adjacent parking lots are open for tailgating.
