AUBURN, Ala. – Fresh off winning her second collegiate tournament, Auburn junior Kaleigh Telfer was named the SEC Women's Golfer of the Week on Wednesday.
Telfer shot three straight rounds at par or better, including a career low 66 (-5) in the first round, to finish first at the Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge last week. The tournament, held at Palos Verdes Golf Club in California, featured eight teams ranked in the top 10 nationally. The Tigers wrapped up play in ninth place.
For Telfer, it was her second tournament victory since she's been at Auburn. She also won the Battle at the Beach her sophomore year, but this was her first outright title.
Through the fall season and the first tournament of the spring, Telfer has now shot par or better in nine of her 13 rounds. She will look to continue her strong play this weekend, taking the No. 1 spot in the lineup for the Tigers in the Lake Oconee Invitational. The first round tees off Friday.
Telfer, who was recently invited to play in the Augusta National Women's Amateur for the second straight year, is the first Auburn women's player to win SEC Golfer of the Week since teammate Brooke Sansom received the honor at the same time last year.
On the men's side, Auburn senior Jovan Rebula also earned SEC Golfer of the Week honors this week. Both he and Telfer are natives of South Africa.
