PALM SPRINGS, Calif. – The No. 14 Auburn men's golf is just two strokes off the lead after the first round of the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate Friday afternoon. The Tigers are in third are firing an 8-under 280 at the par-72 Classic Club.
Auburn trails only Oregon (278) and Charlotte (279) in the 21-team field following the first 18 holes of the weekend.
Brandon Mancheno and Jovan Rebula are tied for eighth overall after each carding a 3-under 69. The duo combined for eight birdies, including five on the front nine, while Mancheno carded an eagle on par-5, 560-yard 14th hole.
Graysen Huff turned in a 2-under 70 while tying with a team-high five birdies on the day. He racked up 12 pars and five birdies and is tied for 14th following the first round.
Andrew Kozan fired an even-par 72 in his first circuit of the course. The junior, who is tied for 30th, shot 2-under on the front nine and shook off a double bogey on the 12th hole, ending his day with five pars and a birdie.
Wells Padgett and Alex Vogelsong are tied for 40th at 1-over. The tandem totaled 11 birdies on the day, including five straight from Vogelsong between the 13th and 17th holes.
Jake Milanowski rounded out the lineup and is tied for 66th after a 3-over 75.
The Tigers are paired with Boise State, Charlotte and Oregon for the second round Saturday in foursomes, beginning at 10:40 a.m. CT off the No. 1 tee box. Live scoring is available on Golfstat.com.
