AUBURN, Ala. – Auburn dropped a tight contest 4-1 at Georgia Tech Sunday in a match played at the Ken Byers Tennis Complex in Atlanta.
The Tigers lost the doubles point for the first time this season. Matteo DeVincentis and Tyler Stice battled to a 6-4 win on court one, but Anders Fry and Diego Chavarria suffered their first loss of the season on court three, and Georgia Tech held off a late charge by Tom Wright and Finn Murgett on court two to win 6-4 and take the doubles point.
Murgett put the Tigers on the scoreboard first with a 6-4, 6-0 singles win over Chris Yun on court five. Spencer Gray on court six took his first set 7-6, winning the tiebreaker 7-5, and Tom Wright and Tyler Stice each forced third sets in their singles matches. Stice and Gray were ahead in their matches when Georgia Tech clinched the team win with a win on court two.
Auburn is 7-3 for the spring season, while Georgia Tech is 5-2.
Friday, the Tigers return home to host Georgia State and Samford in a Valentine's Day doubleheader. All Auburn home tennis action is at the Yarbrough Tennis Center (771 Yarbrough Farms Blvd., Auburn) and admission is free.
