AUBURN, Ala. – The Auburn men's tennis team continued SEC play on the road Sunday with a 7-0 loss to No. 4/6 Florida, the SEC preseason favorite, at the Ring Tennis Complex in Gainesville, Fla.
The Gators captured the doubles point with wins on courts one and two by identical 6-3 scores. On court three, Diego Chavarria and Anders Fry had fought back from a 5-1 deficit to a 5-4 score when the team point was clinched.
The Gators clinched the match with singles victories on courts six, one and two. Auburn junior Tom Wright won his first set on court three over No. 21 Duarte Vale, and that match went into three sets. Wright was tied with Vale 4-4 in the third set before the ranked Gator pulled away to post the 2-6, 6-1, 6-4 victory.
Auburn is now 9-8 and Florida goes to 13-2.
Auburn opens home SEC play on Friday, March 6, when the Tigers host No. 39 Vanderbilt in a 2 p.m. CT match. All Auburn home tennis action is at the Yarbrough Tennis Center (771 Yarbrough Farms Blvd., Auburn) and admission is free.
