Tigers round out SEC opening weekend at No. 7 Florida

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Auburn softball (14-11, 0-3 SEC) fell 11-0 in five innings to No. 7 Florida (21-4, 3-0) Sunday at Katie Seashole Pressly Stadium in round out the opening weekend of Southeastern Conference play.

Florida used an eight-run first inning to secure the series sweep.

Freshman Carlee McCondichie led Auburn at the plate with a 3-for-3 performance, racking up three singles. McCondichie tallied three of Auburn's six total hits in the game.

Redshirt junior Lexie Handley (3-6) was tagged with the loss. She tossed an inning against the Gators, giving up seven hits, one walk and six earned runs. Senior Ashlee Swindle tossed three innings against Florida. The right-hander allowed six hits, two walks and five runs. Two of five runs she allowed were unearned.

Bottom 1

Florida led off the game going station to station with three straight singles to load the bases. Baylee Goddard plated the first run of the game with an RBI single through the right side. After a bases-loaded walk and single through the left side plated two Gator runs, Auburn made a pitching change for Ashlee Swindle. With the bases still loaded, Florida drove in four more runs with two singles, a walk and a sacrifice fly. A walk once again loaded the bases, but an infield fly to short put up a second out on the board. A bases-loaded hit by pitch brought in the final run of the inning.

Cheyenne Lindsey led off the second with a single up the middle. Swindle quickly battled back with two ground balls to second as Lindsey moved her way to third on the plays. Reynoso drove in the run with a squeeze bunt between the circle and first base.

Back-to-back doubles to left field from Julia Cottrill and Cheyenne Lindsey manufactured a Florida run. Tigers made a change in the circle, bringing Lexie Handley back into the circle. Handley forced a ground ball for the first out but a pinch-hit double from Jordan Matthews plated a second run.
