It's time for our final Q&A Friday with Auburn Women's Basketball! Today we check in with senior Unique Thompson, who was a first-team All-SEC selection and honorable mention All-American in 2019-20.
What is your favorite thing about Auburn?
My favorite thing about Auburn is the atmosphere. The campus is by far the best. It's so beautiful, and everyone is truly welcoming. It's one thing to say you are a family and not feel it, but at Auburn you feel it all around.
What are your goals for the upcoming season?
My goal for this season is to break my own record that I set this past season. I want to be able to touch a completely different surface than I have my previous years at Auburn. Being that it is also my senior year, I want to lead this team and be one of the best Auburn Women's Basketball teams to have ever played here.
What advice would you give to any young athletes wanting to play college basketball?
I would tell any young kid that wants to play ball to never stop chasing after their dreams. Set goals and don't stop until you have checked every goal, and then set some more. The biggest enemy we have is our mind, and the only way to overcome it is to surpass any barrier that it may set. Strive for greatness, keep God first, and never let anyone outwork you.
What is one of the biggest challenges of being a college athlete, and what do you do to overcome this challenge?
My biggest challenge that I have had while being at Auburn was having to battle through different injuries. I overcame those injuries by taking advantage of my resources and becoming more serious about my health and my body.
This past season, you passed DeWanna Bonner to become Auburn's all-time leader in double-doubles. What type of work did you have to put in to earn your place in the record books?
I had to step out of my comfort zone. I thought that I was doing just enough, and I realized that I wasn't doing anywhere near as much as I should be. I stepped into another realm of myself, and I have only began to touch the surface of what I am capable of. I had to push myself beyond what I was used to doing, and it manifested for me.
