A new crop of Tigers is on The Plains and ready to get to work. Follow along over the next few weeks as we re-introduce our 2020 class through a question and answer segment with each player.
We continue this week with three more newcomers, the next of which is freshman midfielder Hannah Waesch. Waesch comes to Auburn from The Colony, Texas, and is a The Colony High School and Solar Soccer Club.
Q: Who or what inspired you to play soccer?
A: My dad inspired me to play soccer. He played it growing up and still continues to play. I would always go to his games and I loved it.
Q: What is your favorite soccer memory growing up?
A: The 3v3 tournaments that I played in with my friends were always the best. Because the tournaments would be all day, we really got to spend a lot of time together. Not only were the games fun, but some of the names we would call our team were hilarious. I always enjoy being goofy with my friends.
Q: What is your biggest accomplishment on or off the field?
A: The best accomplishment I've had is winning the National Championship with my team last year. It was a very special thing to experience with my close friends. Committing to Auburn was pretty great too!
Q: Do you have any pre-match superstitions?
A: I have to wear pink pre-wrap in every game. It's a must. I also jump two times then twist my hips, and then I do it again. That's when I really start to lock-in and shake out any nerves.
Q: What made you choose Auburn?
A: I instantly fell in love with the campus. I mean, it's beautiful. The community is so strong here. It really reminded me of home.
Q: What is your favorite Auburn tradition?
A: Rolling Toomer's Corner is my favorite tradition. I've seen so many pictures and I've heard so many stories. When I was told I was going to be able to roll, I thought I knew what to expect. Turns out I didn't know, because being there with everyone is something I had never experienced before.
Q: What are you most excited about for the upcoming season?
A: I'm really excited to just get on the field and touch the ball. I've waited a long time to step on and play, so I am counting down the days.
Q: If you could only eat one meal for the rest of your life what would it be?
A: Sushi. I love sushi. It's not very filling, which is great for me so I can eat as much as I want. Plus, there are so many things you can put into or on top of a roll.
Q: If you could have any superpower what would it be and why?
A: My dream super power is to be able to run really fast and never get tired. Or travel in time.
Q: What is your favorite movie or TV show?
A: Criminal Minds is my favorite TV show. The BAU seems like a pretty cool job, but if we are being honest here, I watch the show for Spencer Reid.
Q: What major do you plan to pursue and what do you want to do with it?
A: Since I'm a freshman, I have an undeclared major in science and mathematics. I ultimately want to be a PA (Physician's Assistant). More specifically a dermatological PA or a chiropractic PA.
Q: What are your goals during your time at Auburn?
A: My goal during my time here is to really enjoy everything. I feel like people take things for granted. I know I have. This year especially has taught me to appreciate what I have before it gets taken away from me. I'm very fortunate to be in the position that I'm in, so my goal is to work hard in everything I do and enjoy it so I don't have any regrets later.
Q: What do you hope to do when your playing days are over?
A: I am going to try to play as long as I can. If that doesn't work out or when my playing days are really over, I want to travel. There are so many places I want to see and some places I would like to go back to.
