AUBURN, Ala. – With SEC football around the corner, the Southeastern Conference announced the 2020 Preseason Coaches All-SEC teams on Thursday. Auburn landed six players on the three teams, including two First-Team selections.
The two players representing Auburn on the First Team are linebacker K.J. Britt and defensive lineman Big Kat Bryant. Britt earned First-Team All-SEC honors a year ago after finishing the season with 69 tackles, including 10 tackles for loss. Bryant recorded 16 tackles, two tackles for loss and led the team with nine quarterback hurries last year. He's expected to take on a bigger role with Marlon Davidson gone.
Last month, Britt and Bryant were both named to the preseason watch list for the Bronco Nagurski Trophy, presented annually to college football's defensive player of the year.
Auburn offensive lineman Brodarious Hamm was selected to this year's All-SEC Second Team by the coaches. Hamm, who played in 11 games last year as a reserve, is expected to take over as the starter at right tackle for the Tigers this year and serve as one of the anchors up front.
The All-SEC Third Team features a trio of Tigers – quarterback Bo Nix, wide receiver Seth Williams and defensive back Christian Tutt.
Nix was the SEC Freshman of the Year last year after he threw for 2,542 yards, rushed for 313 yards and scored a combined 23 touchdowns in his first season on the Plains. Williams, his top target, finished with a team-high in receptions (59), receiving yards (830) and receiving touchdowns (8).
The versatile Tutt was voted on by the coaches as a Third-Team defensive back, return specialist and all-purpose player. His 13.6 yards per punt return last year ranked third in the SEC.
Coaches were not permitted to vote for their own players.
Auburn opens the 2020 season a week from Saturday when the Tigers host Kentucky inside Jordan-Hare Stadium. The game is set to kick off at 11 a.m. CT and will be televised on SEC Network.
