AUBURN, Ala. – After earning a starting position with a stellar preseason camp, Auburn defensive back Jaylin Simpson was named the SEC Freshman of the Week on Monday.

In Auburn's 29-13 season-opening win vs. Kentucky, Simpson broke up a pass and made four tackles, including a tackle for loss.

"He has some natural football instincts," Auburn coach Gus Malzahn said. "We put him at corner right off the bat and you could tell that each day he improved.

"He can flat-out run, he's got really good ball skills, and he's a good tackler. He really stepped up. He made an early impression and kept that momentum going throughout fall camp."

The redshirt freshman from Brunswick, Georgia, returns to his home state Saturday at 6:30 p.m. CT when No. 7 Auburn (1-0) plays at No. 4 Georgia (1-0) in the Deep South's Oldest Rivalry.
