AUBURN, Ala. – Picking up where it left off prior to the holidays, Auburn baseball and head coach Butch Thompson announced the addition of junior college transfer Garrett Martin Monday afternoon.

Martin is utility player originally from Westminster, Colorado, and is a product of McLennan Community College and Standley Lake High School.

"I can't wait to join the Auburn family," Martin said. "The environment and coaches are one-of-a-kind, and it was an opportunity I couldn't pass up."

Martin, who is entering his sophomore season at McLennan, was recently rated by Perfect Game as the No. 65 junior college prospect in the country. He is coming off a freshman campaign in which he played in 57 games and ranked second on the team in batting average (.335) and home runs (nine) while also ranking third in RBI (47).

Martin was named the North Texas Junior College Athletic Conference (NTJCAC) Position Player of the Week on Mar. 26 after hitting .857 with two home runs and six RBI the week prior. He went on to be named NTJCAC Second Team All-Conference.

A three-year letterwinner at Standley Lake, Martin turned in a .467 career average, hitting .421 with seven home runs and 26 RBI in 20 games his senior season. He was rated by Perfect Game as the No. 1 shortstop in Colorado and went on to be drafted by the Baltimore Orioles in the 22nd round of the 2018 MLB Draft.

Martin also excelled on the track and basketball court. He set the school record in the high jump, long jump and 4x200 relay, ultimately being crowned the state champion in the high jump and named First Team All-State. Martin also earned Honorable Mention All-State honors in basketball.
