AUBURN, Ala.—The Auburn cross country team returns to action Friday at the Blazer Classic in Hoover, Ala. The meet, hosted by UAB, will be held at Veterans Park in Hoover, Ala. The Auburn women will compete at 8:50 a.m. CT, followed by the men's race at 9:20 a.m.

"It's going to be really good competition with a nice mixture of SEC schools and other schools mixed in," Auburn cross country coach David Barnett said. "We'll have a good a good-sized group racing. It's a relatively flat course, that I think will be good for our teams. We're really excited about it."

The women's 6k gold race will feature a 10-team field. Auburn will face off against host UAB, Arkansas State, Clemson, Florida Atlantic, Lee, Louisville, South Alabama, South Carolina, and Southern Miss. The men's 8k gold race will include Alabama-Huntsville, Arkansas State, Augusta, Clemson, Lee, Mercer, Troy and South Alabama.

The meet is the third of four on the season for the Tigers and the final tune-up before the Southeastern Conference Championships on October 30 in Baton Rouge, La.

"I want to see our people match up with the other SEC schools and compete at a higher level. I feel like every week we've been getting closer and closer to having a breakthrough race," Barnett said. "I really want to see the women in particular step up and beat some other SEC schools. They're 100% capable. They just have to get on someone else's hip and just run with them. They don't need to look at their stopwatches, they just need to compete. That's what I'm looking forward to this weekend."
