FRANKLIN, Tenn. – Alex Vogelsong shot a season-low round of 4-under (67) to lead Auburn after the first round of the Vanderbilt Legends Collegiate Sunday afternoon.
Playing on his birthday, the sophomore racked up a team-high seven birdies at the par-71 Vanderbilt Legends Club. After opening his first four holes at 1-over, Vogelsong turned in a 5-under performance across the final 14 holes. He is tied for eighth overall.
As a team, the Tigers are in ninth at 6-under (278), just seven strokes off the lead. Vanderbilt (271) is in first after the opening 18 holes, followed by Arkansas (272) and Texas A&M (272).
J.M. Butler, competing in his second career tournament, also carded his lowest round of the season at 2-under (69). The freshman had just one blemish - a double-bogey on the par-4 eighth hole - on an otherwise clean round that included four birdies and 13 pars.
Wells Padgett and Jovan Rebula each posted an even-par round (71) and are tied for 40th overall. The duo combined for nine birdies and 20 pars on the day.
Andrew Kozan shook off a tough start that saw him 5-over through his first four holes by going the final 14 holes at 2-under without a bogey. The senior is tied for 61st at 3-over (74).
Auburn is paired with Florida and Tennessee for the second round Monday, beginning at 9 a.m. CT off the No. 1 tee. Live stats can be found on Golfstat.com.
