Tigers close out first tournament of the season

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The Auburn men's golf team closed out its first tournament of the 2020 fall slate Wednesday at the Blessings Collegiate Invitational. The Tigers finished 10th in the inaugural event at 28-over (303-285-304--892) at the par-72 Blessings Golf Club.

"It was nice to compete this week and learn more about our young team at the Blessings," head coach Nick Clinard said. "The golf course was an excellent test and we learned a lot about our players mentally and physically that will definitely help us over the course of our long season. We look forward to returning to Auburn and executing a plan to help our guys continue their quest to compete at the highest level."

Auburn was led by Andrew Kozan, who tied for 26th overall at 6-over (72-69-81--222). The senior had three birdies and five pars on the day.

Competing in his first collegiate tournament, J.M. Butler finished second on the team and tied for 34th at 9-over (78-71-76--225). The freshman shook off a 5-over card at the turn and shot 1-under the rest of the way with two birdies and six pars.

Wells Padgett tied for 37th at 10-over (77-75-74--226). The senior had a team-best 14 pars and added a birdie on the par-3 third hole.

Alex Vogelsong and C.J. Easley rounded out the lineup and tied for 46th and 51st, respectively. Vogelsong had a team-high four birdies and finished the week at 12-over (79-76-73--228), while Easley finished a shot back at 13-over (76-70-83--229).

Alabama won the event at 4-over (868), followed by Tennessee (873) and host Arkansas (876).

The Tigers return to action Oct. 25-27 at the Vanderbilt Legends Collegiate in Nashville, Tenn.
