Auburn opens 20th straight SEC Tournament vs. Georgia

AUBURN, Ala. – Auburn (3-3-2) opens the Southeastern Conference Tournament with a second-round matchup against Georgia (2-3-2) Sunday at 5 p.m. CT in Orange Beach, Alabama.
 
The game will be played at the Orange Beach Sportsplex and will be broadcast on SEC Network.
 
STARTING XI
 
Auburn makes its 25th SEC Tournament appearance this weekend, including its 20th straight. The Tigers streak of 20 straight trips to the SEC Tournament is the second longest active streak in the league.
 
The Tigers are 13-21-5 all-time at the SEC Tournament, including 11-16-4 under head coach Karen Hoppa and 9-14-4 in Orange Beach.
 
This marks the first time Auburn has entered the tournament as the No. 8 seed.
 
The Tigers are 8-11-5 all-time in SEC Tournament openers and are looking to advance in the tournament for the first time since 2016.
 
Auburn and Georgia have met three previous times at the SEC Tournament with the Bulldogs holding a 1-2-0 advantage.
 
The Tigers trail the Bulldogs 10-11-3 in the all-time series but have won three straight matchups dating back to 2016 and have earned a result in nine of the last 11.
 
Auburn and Georgia met on Oct. 18 earlier this season and the Tigers won the contest 1-0 despite playing the last 35 minutes a man down.
 
The Tigers enter the postseason ranked second in the league in goals against average (0.80) and tied for second in goals allowed (seven).
 
Four Tigers earned All-SEC honors earlier this week, marking the third most honorees in the league and the most for the team since 2016.
 
Senior Sarah Houchin and Alyssa Malonson were named Second Team All-SEC while newcomers Anna Haddock and Maddie Prohaska earned SEC All-Freshman Team honors.
 
SCOUTING GEORGIA
 
Georgia enters the SEC Tournament as the No. 9 seed with a 2-3-2 overall record.
 
The Bulldogs last regular season contest was canceled due to positive COVID tests.
 
Junior midfielder Abby Boyan was named First Team All-SEC earlier this week after leading the Bulldogs with four points on a pair of goals.
 
Junior goalkeeper Emory Wegener was named Second Team All-SEC and played every minute in goal for the Bulldogs during the regular season.

The winner of Sunday's contest advanced to Tuesday's quarterfinals and will take on top-seeded Arkansas (7-1-0) at 5 p.m. on SEC Network.
